Flower species found in Podunk Wildlife Management Area – May 13th

Club Moss – two
species including one referred to as Princess Pine: 1st we saw Bristly Clubmoss (Spinulum annotinum) which had a
strobilus. Next we saw one of three Tree
Club mosses, all commonly referred to as Princess Pine. Genus is Dendrolycopodium. We also quickly saw Northern Ground Cedar,
aka known as Flat-branched Clubmoss (Diphasiastrum complanatum).

I believe we saw a few stray leaves of this but none in flower. What we did see toward the end was Miterwort
(Mitella diphylla), a long stalk with twin leaves toward the bottom and
beautiful, tiny, 4-pointed star like flowers located alternately along the
stalk above.
